‘IDENTITY’

This exhibition is the third of the series, following ‘The Dead Zone’ [2002] and ‘Akamas-Karpasia’ [2008].

‘Identity’ explores the personality, heritage, architecture and countryside of Cyprus, our links with the past and with nature - common elements which unite us and which distinguish us from other countries.

About Michael Owen

Michael Owen was born in Northumberland, UK. He started painting during his National Service in Malaya.

Having travelled extensively in Scandinavia and the Middle East, in 1965 Michael went to New Zealand and studied painting under Louise Henderson in Auckland.  Between 1969 and 1971 he travelled and painted in Australia and New Guinea.  In 1971 he arrived in Cyprus.

Michael moved to Lania in the Limassol District in 1973 and opened the ‘Lania Gallery’ where he has a permanent exhibition of oils and water colours.  Between 1993-1995 Michael exhibited at ‘Romios Gallery’ in Kato Paphos, and in 2003 he opened a second gallery in Lania.

Michael is now a naturalised Cypriot.  He works from his studio in Lania and from his land in the Akamas Peninsula, Paphos.  He has original paintings in private collections in Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Israel, Tanzania, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Britain, Canada, U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, Japan, U.A.E., Zimbabwe, Russia, China, Malaysia, New Guinea, Argentina, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Portugal, India, Romania, Turks & Caicos Islands and Sudan as well as in the Cyprus Parliament and the National Gallery of Cyprus.

Alongside the galleries is a specialist Mediterranean bookshop stocking second hand and new books on a wide variety of subjects pertaining to the Mediterranean
